The Arapahoe/Douglas Family Leadership Training Institute
We are pleased to announce the 4th Family Leadership Training Institute (FLTI). The FLTI curriculum is a proven curriculum that inspires, trains and empowers individuals to become effective change agents on behalf of children, youth and families. This opportunity is offered to 20-25 individuals that apply and are interviewed and selected based on their availability and readiness.
The 20-week FLTI curriculum is based on the premise that
- the family is a child’s first and most important teacher.
- family members are also the best advocates for children and communities.
- community leaders including parents, youth and family members, can be effective when they speak out on issues and inform policy-makers, the media, and the community, about the needs of children, youth and families.
FLTI offers a stimulating curriculum that will boost leadership skills to address areas of concern such as accessible child healthcare, the education achievement gap, neighborhood safety, and the significance of parental involvement. Together, class participants will emerge as strong leaders and advocates for all children and their families.
The curriculum is a 20-week class, featuring:
- A kick-off retreat scheduled for January 2012 to develop group cohesion and define mission.
- A 10-week session on leadership, understanding personal history and its impact on perception.
- A 10-week session to study politics, policy and media with a Community Project to practice your new skills within a community framework.
Individuals will be selected with consideration given regarding how their participation will enhance diversity, strength, and learning for the group as a whole.
Who should apply?
Parents, teen parents, grandparents, community members and others who wish to improve the lives of children, families and communities. The FLTI course is offered free of charge! Your time, commitment, and a written community project that reflects your passion, is what we ask in return. Please consider whether FLTI is the right opportunity for you at this time.
