Make a Difference Working from Home
Eric and Lusy Gampu are host home providers for Colorado Solutions. This unique job allows them to work from home and to do what they love-care for people with disabilities. Dan lives with the Gampu family along with the Gampu’s two grade school aged sons. Eric said he became a host home provider because he likes working with people with disabilities. “You need compassion to do this work. Lusy and I make a great team.”
Dan needs help with every daily activity, including bathing, dressing and eating. “Dan likes to be in the center of the action. He gravitates toward classic rhythms, like Elvis’ Jail House Rock, enjoys practicing Tai Chi and more than anything else, he likes getting in his van and going places,” Eric said. “Dan’s the man with the van!” Eric said, laughing as Dan smiles from across the room.
Both Eric and Lusy have taken special training to administer medication. They are also certified in CPR and First Aid. “Dan’s dad comes down on Mondays and his mom comes has lunch with him every Friday. Dan’s also in a program that gets him out in the community four days a week."
Host home providers are private contractors under Colorado Solutions and their earnings are tax free because host home providers fall under the foster care tax code. This important and rewarding work allows people to work from home and to make a real difference in their community.
