Irving Takes the First Step in His Career

Irving Takes the First Step in His Career
Like many 20-something young men, Irving Ramirez wants to find a job that will give him satisfaction while he earns a paycheck. He wanted to learn how to use a computer, but his family felt that going directly into a community college program would not give him the fundamental skills he would need. Instead, they asked Colorado Solutions’ Life Essentials program for help.
Lee Hill, a Life Essentials Specialist, helped Irving find the right program and get him signed up. “I took Irving and his dad over to a day program that teaches computer skills so they could assess things firsthand. They both thought it was a good match,” Lee explained. Lee is available to answer questions while Irving completes the classes, and he will help the family find good options for follow-up classes once Irving has completed the basic course.
“This class allows Irving to learn at his own pace,” Irving’s dad, Refugio, said. “He’ll get comfortable using the keyboard with office applications. Once he gets the basics down, he can go to work. We want him to be as independent as possible because we know we won’t be here forever,” Refugio expressed, voicing a concern that many parents have.
Refugio and his family appreciate that their Life Essentials Specialist took the time to get to know Irving and help them find a class that was well suited for his abilities and goals. Now Irving is headed in the right direction to build his skills, find a job and become more independent.
